Dr Bernie Collins

Biography

Dr Bernie Collins is an Associate Researcher at the National Anti-Bullying Research and Resource Centre (ABC) at DCU. Bernie is a lecturer in Social, Personal and Health Education in St. Patrick’s College since 2000, and holds posts as Quality Promotion Coordinator and Acting Coordinator of the B.Ed. Programme Board. Bernie completed a Doctorate in Education in NUIM in 2011, focusing her research on the practice of circle time in Irish primary schools entitled Empowerment of Children Through Circle Time: An Illumination of Practice. Bernie is the consultant team leader in a pilot project on homophobic and transphobic bullying in primary schools All Together Now! which is funded by the DES. Her research interests include LGBT inclusion and bullying in primary schools, substance misuse prevention education, sexuality education, child protection, mindfulness. Her latest publication is the book “Looking Outside the Circle: Circle Time for SPHE Strand Myself and the Wider World” (St. Patrick’s College: Centre for Human Rights and Citizenship Education) from 2016.
