Helena Murphy is a Doctoral Researcher with the National Anti-Bullying Research and Resource Centre, DCU. Helena’s primary degree is in Education Studies from DCU and has experience working with DEIS schools. Her expertise is in Empathy Studies and School Culture and how they relate to bullying behaviour. Her research is to develop a deeper understanding of the importance of the teacher’s role in cultivating preventative anti-bullying strategies, academic success and pupils’ holistic development. This is achieved by promoting prosocial values and an ethos of respect and equality in the classroom, through modelling behaviours of empathy and caring and building pupil’s individual resilience to assist with tackling victimisation.
