Karolin Rippich

Biography

Karolin is a PhD student with DCU Anti-Bullying Centre and DCU Law & Tech Research Cluster working on Children’s Online Safety and the Protection of LGBTQ+ Groups. Her research focuses on how bottom-up movements (youth, parental, feminist, and LGBTQ+) articulate and advocate rights for children and LGBTQ+ groups in the digital sphere, aiming to contrast their role in shaping digital rights agendas with that of the global anti-gender movement as well as increasing regulation concerning children’s online safety.

Karolin completed her Bachelor of Science in Information Science at Fachhochschule der Wirtschaft (2019) and received an ERASMUS Mundus Joint Masters Degree in Security, Intelligence, and Strategic Studies from the University of Glasgow, Dublin City University, and Charles University Prague (2024) with a thesis on feminist transnational advocacy movements and how they articulate rights for gender minorities in the digital space, contrasting relevant (feminist) Digital Bills of Rights with EU regulations on AI, data, and privacy.

In addition, Karolin is Head of Communications at the Young Security Conference, a think-tank that has been fostering inclusive and intergenerational spaces for young thinkers to connect with policy experts, scholars and high ranking officials to bring new ideas into debates on European foreign and security policy.
