Dr Maryam Esfandiari

Biography

Maryam is a Postdoctoral researcher at the Anti-Bullying Centre at Dublin City University, working on the “Apps Against Abuse” project aims to design an anti-bullying and cyber safety mobile application for children and young people in collaboration with Vodafone Ireland. She obtained her Ph.D. in Journalism and Communication from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China. Her Ph.D. thesis addressed the social phenomenon of Sharenting among Iranian parents in relation to online privacy literacy and cultural values. She also completed her MA in journalism at Allameh Tabataba’i University, Tehran. Iran. Her research interests primarily focus on children’s online safety, cyberbullying, and online activism. Studying in a different academic environment provides an opportunity for her to become familiar with non-Western research contexts. She also has publications in peer-reviewed journals such as Information, communication and society and Global Media and Communication.
